Bloody Halloween punch in a glass bowl with a frozen red hand floating on top next to a ladle and a small cup of punch

Pioneer Woman Bloody Halloween Punch

Pioneer Woman bloody Halloween punch turns red fruit punch, strawberry daiquiri mix and cherry Dr Pepper into a fizzy, blood-red party drink in 6 hours 15 minutes. Try this spooky Halloween party punch for costume parties or trick-or-treat night, since it's make-ahead, non-alcoholic and kid-friendly.

Freeze the glove with the fingers pointing down, because that is what keeps the hand looking like a hand. Lay it flat on a tray and the fingers come out squashed and flat.

A frozen hand floating in the bowl is the whole trick, and it chills the punch as it melts. Filling the glove with plain fruit punch instead of water means the hand never waters down the flavor.

Four chilled sodas and juices mix into one fruity, fizzy, deep red punch that tastes like cherry and berry. A frozen glove hand floats on top and keeps everything cold while you serve.

Ingredients

  • 3 c. red fruit punch, chilled

  • 1 1-liter bottle strawberry daiquiri mix

  • 1 2-liter bottle Dr Pepper Cherry, chilled

  • 1 46-ounce bottle concord grape raspberry juice, chilled

  • 1 1-liter botle ginger ale, chilled

Directions

  • Fill the glove: Fill a powder-free latex glove with some of the chilled red fruit punch and tie it closed. Then you have a hand-shaped ice block waiting to happen.
  • Freeze the hand: Freeze the glove for at least 6 hours or overnight. For the best shape, hang it from a freezer rack with the fingers pointing down.
  • Mix the punch: Pour the remaining fruit punch, the strawberry daiquiri mix, Dr Pepper Cherry, concord grape raspberry juice and ginger ale into a large punch bowl. Stir gently, so the fizz stays in the punch.
  • Add the hand: Peel the latex glove off the frozen hand when you're ready to serve. Then float the hand in the punch bowl and ladle into cups.

FAQs

Can I make Bloody Halloween Punch without the glove?

Yes, a ring mold or plain ice cubes made from fruit punch works just as well. You lose the spooky hand, but the punch stays just as cold.

Can I make this punch ahead of time?

Freeze the hand up to a few days early, but mix the punch right before serving. The sodas lose their fizz if they sit for hours.

How do I keep the punch from getting watered down?

Fill the glove with fruit punch instead of water, and chill every bottle before you mix. A cold punch melts the hand slowly.

Can I make it for adults?

A splash of vodka or rum stirred into the bowl works with these fruity flavors. Add it right before serving and keep a pitcher of the plain version for the kids.

What's the most common mistake with the frozen hand?

Freezing the glove lying flat is the usual problem, since the fingers squash together. Hang it with the fingers down, and tie the glove tightly so nothing leaks.
